To rush onto the beach, to claim it for your own, sitting silently without being disturbed, your back to the wind buffeting you from behind - silent with your thoughts.

This is that moment. This is that place.

Back to the Wind is painted from a single precise point on the North Cornwall coast, recorded at ///saying.dollars.factoring - a spot on the ancient Bude Formation where the rock face catches the full Atlantic light and blazes with colour that has no right to exist in stone. Iridescent aquamarine and acid yellow-green pulse against molten amber and burnt orange. A seam of vermillion fire runs through the middle like a fault line lit from within. Above, the cobble forms of the upper cliff face sit in their dark grid, patient and ancient. Below, the wave platform dissolves into purple and blue shadow.

This is the Bude Formation at its most alive. 300 million years of rock, and in this light, at this moment, it looks brand new.
